Loes de Boer (b. 1999, NL) ’s black and white still life photographs are sequences of self portraits, mirrors to her own life and the objects that surround or transform her. Building on art historian research on feminist artist icons, De Boer’s employs her lens to explore both her own as well as society’s boundaries and perspectives on identity, sexuality and womanhood through carefully composed and layered graphic and sculptural compositions.

One of my works is an image of a pan with water and oil, and for me that’s a self-portrait in itself. I just feel something in it that I almost can’t explain – like my work is presenting a question, rather than offering an answer. I want people to observe my work and to think about what they see.
