Azzimin is sitting. She wears a white blouse, her hair pulled back in a bun, and she’s smiling. Behind her, a quarter of a face can be seen, with soft arms enveloping her. Her legs are hidden by the torso of a child, her other son. It’s a hazy, layered image. The thick foliage of a tree is reflected in the familiar scene. Azzimin is one of the protagonists of Behind Glass, a project by Australian photographer Lisa Sorgini .
This twenty-photo work is on display at the Ragusa Foto Festival from today until August 27th. Caravaggesque, theatrical lighting, with a Renaissance trompe-l’oeil . The reference to art history is clear, not only in the composition but also in the theme: motherhood. What Henry Moore sculpted and Klimt painted with The Three Ages of Woman, Lisa Sorgini has photographed.
