Tender, your heart is out

Darcy Brenna (b.1998) paints with an animated urgency in which tranquil tenderness coexists with her gestural and intuitive mark making. Like streams of consciousness, her fluid brushstrokes capture the boundless complexity of human emotion and the female experience in unapologetic and emotionally charged paintings. Her visual language is inspired by memory, Jungian philosophy, and mimics the crashing tide of the sea. Her work distills personal and collective experiences into visualisations of love, loss, and rebirth. Utilizing pentimento, she paints and repaints, covers up and destroys, evoking a push and pull, a fight to hold hands with calm and chaos.

Brenna completed the 18 month Tracey Emin Artist Residency in 2024 and is currently based in Leeds, UK. Her work was recently on view in LA in a group exhibition with Jack Siebert Projects and has been exhibited in Los Angeles, London, and Margate. Her duo solo presentation at Art Rotterdam, followed by a group exhibition with Homecoming Gallery in Amsterdam, will mark her Dutch debut.
