Iron and blue, my hands trick the sea

Darcy Brenna (b.1998) paints with an animated urgency in which tranquil tenderness coexists with her gestural and intuitive mark making. Like streams of consciousness, her fluid brushstrokes capture the boundless complexity of human emotion and the female experience in unapologetic and emotionally charged paintings. Her visual language is inspired by memory, Jungian philosophy, and mimics the crashing tide of the sea. Her work distills personal and collective experiences into visualisations of love, loss, and rebirth. Utilizing pentimento, she paints and repaints, covers up and destroys, evoking a push and pull, a fight to hold hands with calm and chaos.
