Johnny Mae Hauser

Giclée print on fine art paper, mounted on Bubond
160 x 126 cm

Johnny Mae Hauser (1997) is a Dutch-German artist known for her abstract compositions, a gentle gaze in dramatically rich palettes, pushing the boundaries of photography. Each piece, an expression of the evolution of emotional memory in her distinctly sensible and colourful ways. Inspired by personal life experiences, her images exude a poetic stillness that captures the sentiments of life – introspection, isolation, intimacy and, ultimately, connection.

Johnny Mae’s work invites viewers into a dialogue with their inner selves, shifting the focus from what we see to what goes on beyond the visible; what we feel and experience. In doing so, Hauser aims for us to expand our perceptions, to question and redefine the way we identify and understand emotion.

My work is a fluid and organic process. Sometimes I'll notice something in my peripheral vision that sparks my intuition. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is that catches my attention, but there's a definite feeling associated with it.

    Bildnis

Bildnis is an ongoing series in which Johnny Mae Hauser looks at how emotional memories shift over time. The photographs move through feelings of introspection, isolation, and quiet closeness, offering moments that feel both personal and open.

Hauser’s images set up a gentle exchange between her inner world and the viewer. Rather than telling you what to see or feel, the works leave space for your own response, shifting the focus from simply looking at a picture to actually experiencing it.

The title Bildnis reflects Hauser’s painterly way of working and the individuality of each piece. Every photograph is printed only once, existing as a single, unique work.

Each of her works is unique and together, the photographs in Bildnis form a calm, reflective space, one that invites you in without demanding anything in return.
