Rinchen Ato

Rinchen Ato’s work gives a rare and intimate glimpse into the struggles and celebrations of the Kham community in the province of Qinghai, China, her father’s home country that she’s documented over the past 2 decades.

Having visited the East since the age of 2 and with a BA Photography Arts from the University of Westminster, Rinchen created a body of work all shot on medium format that delicately balances peaceful detachment with gentle intimacy. Focussing on the intricacies of family, friendship and themes of life and death, her works explores the fast evolving culture of rural Tibet and the monastery in which her father grew up in. .
