Derrick Ofosu Boateng’s photography of scenes inspired by everyday Accra-life bursts with joy and energy. Adding a vibrant, ‘Afropop’ dubbed color palette, Derrick’s work has amassed a following and praise from tech giant Google to iconic rapper Common - who used Derrick’s artworks for the covers of his newly released album ‘A Beautiful Revolution.’
What started out as creative fun while studying business administration, has now grown into a professional career with international clients and galleries worldwide embracing Boateng’s distinctive work.
Derrick in turn intends to use his story to inspire a small revolution on its own, putting art on the map in the Accra junior high school system.
As the editorial lead of We Present Holly was one of the first to put the spotlight on Derrick. Spearheading WeTransfer’s editorial platform and supporting emerging talent, Holly has brought a refreshing take on creativity, celebrating unexpected stories from across the globe: “Derrick is extraordinarily talented with a natural eye. His work has such energy to it and his compositions feel very intimate; his subjects almost feel like they’re speaking directly to you. Ghana generally is such a hotbed of creative talent right now and Derrick is one of the artists leading that charge.”
