Florence Reekie

Florence Reekie (b. 1991, Scotland) lives and works in Seissan, France. Her figurative oil paintings place contemporary scenes within a classical pictorial vocabulary -recalling Renaissance portraiture and Dutch still life in their virtuosic rendering of silk, skin, and flower petals. Working on deadstock textiles whose seams remain visible as traces of former lives, she explores the quiet rituals through which femininity is constructed in private, in-between moments.

Drapery is central to her practice -not as backdrop but as subject and agent. Through crumpled laundry, draped silk, and the intimate paraphernalia of grooming, she examines the work involved in being seen: beauty as choice, identity as construction, vanity as something worth examining closely.

She has exhibited at Annely Juda, London; Aberdeen Art Gallery; Georgina Pounds Gallery, Mexico City; and MAMA, London, where her first solo exhibition Sumptuary Laws was presented in 2023. She is the recipient of the Art Fund Museum of the Year Aberdeen Art Gallery Micro Commission (2021). Her most recent solo exhibition, Preen, opened at Sargent's Daughters, New York in 2026.
